بدر شاكر السياب شاعر عراقي يُعتبر واحدًا من أشهر الشعراء العرب في العصر الحديث، وساهم في تأسيس مدرسة "الشعر الحر" مع كبار الشعراء مثل صلاح عبد الصبور وأمل دنقل ولميعة عباس عمارة. تميزت قصائده ومجموعاته الشعرية بالتدفق الشعري والتمرد على الأشكال التقليدية للقصيدة، ومن أبرز أعماله "أزهار ذابلة" و"أساطير" و"المومس العمياء" و"الأسلحة والأطفال". بالإضافة إلى أشعاره، ساهم السياب في ترجمة العديد من الأعمال الأدبية والشعرية العالمية، وأصدر مجموعة من ترجماته عام 1955 في كتاب بعنوان "قصائد مختارة من الشعر العالمي الحديث". توفي عام 1964 بعد صراع طويل مع مرض شديد.
