This book was published in 1956, at the beginning of Dr. Mustafa Mahmoud's writing journey, and it includes a collection of articles on many philosophical and ethical issues, starting with the idea of faith and belief, passing through the idea of freedom and choice, and the relativity of honor and moral virtues. It also reflects on abstract ideas such as happiness and love. Conscience, justice, civil progress, and the relationship between men and women. Then the book moves on to talk about the meaning of the soul and the origin of religions, a topic that was met with widespread opposition as a result of the boldness of the ideas and questions it raised, and to which Dr. Mustafa Mahmoud himself responded in his later writings.
مصطفى محمود (27 ديسمبر 1921 – 31 أكتوبر 2009)، هو فيلسوف وطبيب وكاتب مصري. ألف 89 كتابًا منها الكتب العلمية والدينية والفلسفية والاجتماعية والسياسية إضافة إلى الحكايات والمسرحيات وقصص الرحلات، ويتميز أسلوبه بالجاذبية مع العمق والبساطة. كان مصطفى محمود مقدّمًا لأكثر من 400 حلقة من برنامجه التلفزيوني الشهير (العلم والإيمان). أنشأ عام 1979 مسجده في الجيزة المعروف باسم «مسجد مصطفى محمود». ويتبع له ثلاثة مراكز طبية تهتم بعلاج ذوي الدخل المحدود. وشكل قوافل للرحمة من ستة عشر طبيبًا، ويضم المسجد الجمعية الفلكية بمسجد محمود، ومتحفاً للجيولوجيا، يقوم عليه أساتذة متخصصون. ويضم المتحف مجموعة من الصخور الجرانيتية، والفراشات المحنطة بأشكالها المتنوعة وبعض الكائنات البحرية. أُطلق على كويكب اسم (296753) مصطفى محمود تكريمًا له.
